There are many M.J. Mahoneys, but this one writes fiction. Strange fiction, infused with the occult, hidden realms, symbolism, allegory, terror and wonderment. Fiction that exists in the liminal zone between right and wrong; benevolent and malign; real and unreal. Fiction that eschews convention, but not structure or form. Fiction that holds itself to a higher standard and says: "Page-turners do not have to be badly written marathons of cliche' with paint-by-numbers plots". Fiction that says: "Good writing doesn't have to mean dreary old stories where nothing happens and it takes 300 pages of over-wrought description to find out if she dies at the end".
(If you're looking for the M.J. Mahoney who contributes to medical textbooks, that's someone else. This Mahoney wasn't in "Police Academy", either, so don't even ask.)
